Different time zone. Much different result.
After starting the season 4-1-1, the Boston University women’s soccer team seemed ready to head out west and take on the University of Utah last night. Unfortunately, it seems that may not be so.
The Utes humbled the Terriers by a score of 4-0, sending BU to its second defeat of the season.
And considering head coach Nancy Feldman expected the Utah game to be the easier of the two on this road trip, things didn’t go the way the Terriers had wished.
Utes forward Amy Kofoed opened scoring with her second goal of the season in the game’s 12th minute. BU was able to hold Utah for the remainder of the half, but that success was short-lived.
Senior back Megan Cross picked up her second yellow-card of the season with 10 minutes left in the first half.
In the 64th minute, Utah forward Missy Dennis scored the first of her two goals on the night, tallying the second less than three minutes later. Dennis leads the Utes with four goals this season.
Forward Julie Herdic nailed the final goal with less than three minutes to play, as BU suffered its worst defeat of the season.
In their first match after last Sunday’s monumental 43-shot affair against Drexel University, BU could muster only six shots on net, three of those coming from sophomore midfielder Rebecca Beyer.
The Terriers also lost their 300 minute scoreless streak, with sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Clinton saving three shots while surrendering the four goals.
BU has one more game in Utah against Brigham Young University on Saturday night. The Terriers will have to be mindful of the Cougars star players, especially midfielder Aleisha Cramer, who was nominated in the preseason for the Hermann Award, which is the college soccer answer to the Heisman Award. Cramer has also been picked to represent the United States National Team multiple times.
Last year as a freshman, Cramer was named an All-American.
Sarah Higham Yee, a midfielder, currently leads BYU in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven total points. BU will have to mark her well if the team hopes to put in a better showing than last night.
The Terriers as a whole will need to play much better if they hope to compete with the Cougars, who are currently ranked 17th in the nation.
