The Boston University club baseball team stretched its season-opening win streak to four games, sweeping Emerson College, 4-1 and 4-2, in a doubleheader last Saturday.

Pitching once again dominated for the Terriers (4-0), who allowed only three runs in the two games. Jon Koonin, who no-hit Fairfield University for five innings last week, came up with another big performance in the first game against the Lions. The senior let up only a single unearned run in five innings of work, setting the tone on the day for the defending champs.

"Our pitching has been phenomenal so far this year," said senior captain Nando Trindade. "We're all happy. If we keep up with this pace, we'll have no problem defending our title."

Quinn Duffy pitched two scoreless innings to record the save for the Terriers, who have lost only four times since last September, winning 26 times.

Emerson got on the board in the first inning of the series opener, when umpires ruled that Trindade trapped a liner that would have ended the inning

The Terriers quickly answered in the third inning, plating three runs on doubles by Jeff Nitz and Mike Carozza. BU then tacked on an insurance run in the fifth, when captain Brad Gerbus walked and advanced to third on a throwing error. Craig O'Connell singled home the run, which proved to be all the offense BU would need.

The Terriers struck first in the second game, but Emerson tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth, failing to take the lead when centerfielder Pete Lawn threw a strike to home plate to gun down the potential go-ahead run.

The game stayed tied until the sixth, when O'Connell followed up Gerbus' leadoff triple with a sacrifice fly, driving in the winning run. Catcher Kevin Scheitrum, who is also the sports editor of The Daily Free Press, followed with a double, and scored on rookie Dan Piorowski's RBI single. Jeff Border pitched a scoreless inning of relief to notch the win. Trindade attributed BU's success to the club's ability to hit consistently up and down the lineup.

"If a certain part of the order isn't hitting, we're confident the bottom of the order can pick up the slack," he said. "We're confident in our ability to play as a team."
