Two Boston University females reported being sexually assaulted in their residences at Warren Towers and 42 Buswell St. within an hour of each other last week, according to the Boston University Police Department.
In both incidents, which police claim were unrelated, the victims knew their attackers and were “involved” with the suspects, said BUPD Lt. Robert Molloy.
“These are not situations involving strangers,” Molloy said. Last Friday, Sept. 15, at 12:30 a.m., BUPD responded to a report of a sexual assault at Warren Towers. The woman was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and released the next day.
Last Thursday, Sept. 14, at 11:30 p.m., BUPD responded to a report of a sexual assault at 42 Buswell St. The woman was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.
The next day, police returned to the crime scene to transport evidence from 42 Buswell St. back to BUPD.
A “suspicious” male was also warned and removed by BUPD from the same building Saturday, Sept. 16, at 2:45 a.m. BUPD had not arrested any suspects in either of the alleged assaults as of yesterday, and declined to give the ages and school years of the victims.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Molloy said.
This year, a movement to combat sexual assaults has picked up speed, bringing Rape Aggression Defense classes to the campus as well as a number of proposed Student Union measures to promote rape awareness. Talks of a rape counseling center on campus reached a standstill in the Union last year.
Patrick Donovan, the Student Union vice president of safety services, said last week that this year the Union will become more involved in rape prevention and education.
“We’re really putting together programs to prevent rape on campus,” Donovan said.
This year the Union is running a series of rape-prevention ads. Donovan said he is hoping to implement a full-scale program dealing with rape intervention for men, he said.
