The fourth-seeded Boston University men's tennis team competed in the America East Tournament last weekend at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Following an opening-round victory over the University of Hartford last Friday, the Terriers lost against Binghamton University in the semifinals last Saturday before dropping a consolation match to Stony Brook University.
Friday, BU defeated eighth-seeded Hartford, 4-0, to advance to the semifinal round. Sophomore Jeff Chudacoff and junior Miron Nissim won their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0, while junior Tim Sichler was a 6-1, 6-1 winner.
The Terriers won all three doubles matches against the Hawks, with the lead doubles team of Chudacoff and junior Charles Weinstein winning, 8-2. The other doubles teams, consisting of seniors Phil DeMeo and Giulio Galloratti and senior Daniel Frid and junior Miron Nissim, won their respective matches, 8-1.
In the semifinals, BU faced top-seeded Binghamton and was swept, 4-0. The Bearcats won all three doubles matches and the first, fourth, and fifth singles matches for the blowout victory. Weinstein, who transferred to BU from Binghamton, had won the second set of his match. During the match, however, Binghamton clinched the overall win, and as a result Weinstein did not complete his match.
Binghamton went on to win the conference tournament, 4-3, over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
BU concluded its season with a consolation match against third-seeded Stony Brook later on Saturday, losing 4-1. Chudacoff had the lone win in a singles match against the Seawolves' Ivan Rummel. The doubles duo of Weinstein and Chudacoff were tied, but their game was called due to the other doubles games being decided in favor of Stony Brook. The Seawolves won two doubles matches and three singles matches to clinch the victory.
